My Top 3 Priorities

  • Getting people back to work. We need quality paying jobs where we can actually take care of our families and have money left over.
  • Education. Our children are being sexualized in school and the California education system is amongst the last in the country and our country is failing because of it. I will pass legislation to make our school competitive again.
  • Women's rights. Women are under attack in America. Biological men identifying as women are competing against our daughters in everything from sports to relationships and taking away opportunities for our young women to be successful.

Biography

Joe Edward Collins III is a 13 1/2-year Navy Veteran from South Central LA. He's the CEO of a contracting and development company and also sits on the board of a private global development company. He’s a licensed financial professional and holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. He is the former host of KABC's radio show New Black Republican and a current Congressional candidate for California's 36th district.

Collins grew up on 104th and Normandie in South Central Los Angeles, Ca, and knows this district all too well; Extreme amounts of Homelessness, Crime, Lack of Quality Education, and High Gang Activity.

One Sunday, the home that Joe and his family lived in was the target of a drive-by shooting. Upon returning home from his grandfather's church, they found that bullets had made their way through the windows and into the cushions of the family sofa. At this moment Joe’s mother decided that it was time for her and her children to move from South Central Los Angeles. She moved her family to a rural town outside of Dallas Texas (Joe's mother is still a teacher in the suburbs of Dallas).

After completing high school in Texas, Joe made the most important decision of his life; He joined the U.S. Navy.

Joe Collins spent 13 years in the Navy and quickly rose to the rank of First Class Petty Officer (E-6). He worked on and trained thousands of sailors on many types of aircraft including the F-18 Super Hornet, E6 Mercury, and the MH60 Sea-hawk. With the help of the U.S. Navy, he also became a licensed financial professional, as well as a Certified Counselor for rape and sexual assault victims. Joe also was a recruiter and earned numerous honors and awards. This was a role Joe enjoyed immensely, as he had the pleasure of jump-starting the careers of many of our young American leaders of today.

Joe proudly served during the successful campaign, “Operation Iraqi Freedom”. Joe left the U.S. Navy in Sept of 2017, with a desire to continue serving his country, and this time it would be in a Leadership role in politics.

Since already taking an oath to defend our country and its people, the decision to serve and defend those without a voice in his California District was one he would proudly make.

Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California (4)

What legislation, if any, would you support to reduce American greenhouse gas production?  Please explain the reasons for your position.
Answer from Joe E. Collins, III:

Yes.

I believe preserving our world is the responsibility of all humankind. Gradually transitioning to a more conservative conservation plan would be my priority. We have used fossil fuels from the dawn of time and I believe that technology will eventually reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

My agenda will promote research and development that will increase employment, technology innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Should immigration laws be changed?  What changes would you support?  Please explain why.
Answer from Joe E. Collins, III:

I do not believe federal immigration laws need to be changed, I think they need to be followed. I do feel that California does not need to be a sanctuary state.

A lot of our California taxpayer dollars are going to people who are breaking federal laws by coming to this county illegally. If we as U.S. citizens break federal laws we are held accountable and punished accordingly without remorse so what makes an illegal better than you or I to where they are rewarded with free housing, medical and stimulus checks they did not earn nor deserve when we Americans living on the streets homeless and seniors citizens and children whose families are struggling to make ends meet.

As Congress Member what, if any, policies or legislation would you support to preserve democracy for all US residents?
Answer from Joe E. Collins, III:

Any policy that limits the government's forced interference in your life. The government was made to benefit the people not rule the people.

The Federal Government plays a part in California water allocation and use through a variety of projects and laws.  What, if any, new programs or projects or reforms to existing programs and projects would you support in an effort to handle water shortages caused by the current and any future drought?
Answer from Joe E. Collins, III:

I don't think we should have any type of water shortage when California is right near the ocean. I would support any legislation that would support ending water shortages in California.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

Joe E Collins III ran for Congress in the 2020 election against Maxine where he got almost 80 thousand votes, which is three times more than any other candidate both Democrat and Republican to run against her. He also organized teams that registered more than fifty thousand new Republican voters in the 43rd district.

Joe is a South Los Angeles native and says crime, drugs, inadequate schools, and poverty plaguing the community when he was a child are still issues today. But Joe is confident his Five Point Plan which calls for rebuilding communities together, improving education for children, bringing high-paying jobs to the area, promoting financial literacy, and taking steps to end homelessness can clean up and bring integrity and opportunities to California Communities.

Homelessness in California

Summary

Most candidates this year have vowed to declare the homeless crisis an emergency and deliver a large number of short-term shelter options. Few have offered more permanent housing options, to prevent short-term shelter residents from cycling back out onto the street. Do you intend to deliver long-term housing options for homeless people?

Do you intend to deliver long-term housing options for homeless people?

Long-term housing is simply putting a band-aid on a cut.

1.       I will create a budget to reopen mental health facilities and make it so people who have mental health problems can not check themselves out until their treatment is complete.

2.       I will create a recidivism program so we can get ex-felons jobs and housing

3.       Cut restrictions on development and energy so we can lower the cost of living so people can afford housing.

4.       Incentivize businesses to come back to California with tax breaks and encourage entrepreneurship by creating business and financial literacy classes for small businesses and aspiring business owners.
